Atop the 6x6 posts will rest beams built from three sandwiched 2x12s. I'll be assembling them with a pair of 1/2-inch bolts spaced every sixteen inches. I think we should be able to drive our car out onto the deck if we want...

At 49.5 inches, this is the shorter of the two beams. It is all marked up and ready for drilling:

And the beauty that is a 1-1/2" Freud Forstner bit in a Delta drill press making quick work of counterbores for the bolt heads:

And this is the longer of the two beams, coming in at 99 inches. Here we are ready to begin bolting the beam together:

Interestingly, the 11.25-inch specified height of the boards was much less consistent than I expected. The total variance was getting close to a quarter-inch in some places, and it took a fair amount of sawing and sanding to get the beam close to flat/parallel on top and bottom. The shop is getting to be a disaster with all of the sawdust, but these are looking good...
