|With the batter boards in place and the post locations marked on the strings, it's time to dig some holes. The local requirement to get below the frost line is 36 inches -okay, make that time to dig some deep holes. X marks the spot:
Now, to dig. Fortunately, the post-hole digger we bought was up to the task.
Okay, that's deep enough.
We have four 10-inch round footing forms - one for each hole that needs to be dug. After removing the dirt, then spending some time to get the tube level and approximately centered under the mark on the string, it was time to backfill around the hole and move on to the next.
And here are all four footing forms, in place and ready for concrete.
