Bead blasting at homeSunday, October 19, 2008
After some time on the web, I decided to try putting together my own bead blasting setup with the hope that it would allow me to remove the rest of the paint and get the radiator down to bare cast iron. I was able to borrow a decent-sized air compressor from work, and bought the remaining items from Northern Tool (www.northerntool.com, which is quickly becoming a favorite online tool supplier). With a 25-pound bucket of medium-grit glass bead, the air compressor, a blasting gun, some hose, and a sheet of plastic, I gave it a shot...

As we can see below, the glass bead does an excellent job of revealing the bare metal, which is very exciting! Unfortunately, it takes forever to get through the stubborn paint spots, so I'm going to need to figure out something else for that...
