To build a deck, part 3.2 (stair stringers)Monday, August 30, 2010
It's time to start building these stairs. This means turning four pressure-treated 2x12s into stringers. The first step was coming up with a way to accurately mark the boards for cutting:

Fortunately, I was able to use the miter saw for most of the cuts, leaving just the end portion to cut out with the jig saw.

This worked well, though it would have been easier if the boards were perfectly flat! Anyhow, here's the first stringer, ready to go:

Now, to test the fit out in the back yard:

And it looks like it's going to work... now, to cut the other three...

After drilling a few holes in the end, as well as cutting and drilling one of the base posts from Ipe, here is the outer stringer in place and mostly attached!
