|Following my premonition from last evening, I shall now pour the concrete footings for the posts at the base of the stairs. These are going to be the 43rd, 44th, and 45th bags of concrete that I've mixed this summer (not including the 24 bags of self-leveling compound), and the process has become rather old hat. Anyhow, here is one of the footings, ready to be tamped and screeded:
The I push and wiggle and mush the 6-inch-long J-bolt down into the concrete, check placement with the plumb bob (as you can see in the next photo), re-tamp down the concrete around the bolt, re-screed, and then clean off the threads with a wire brush:
And here they are, ready to cure for a few days...
